Of course, the film is famous for THAT scene of Ursula Andress emerging from the ocean in her white bikini. There are no fancy gadgets, but we do get the origin of Bond’s use of the Walther PPK. Many of the classic Bond elements are established in this film - the iconic “Bond…James Bond…” line, the martini order, the womanising, the first mention of SPECTRE and the establishment of Bond’s CIA counterpart Felix Leiter. I particularly enjoyed the visual of Bond non-chalantly parking his open-top car, with a dead body sitting in the back-seat. We only see the fringes of his licence-to-kill at this stage of the franchise. This is best shown in the way he competently preps his hotel room for an intruder. The film emphasises the way in which he carefully considers the situation and often outwits his opponents before they’ve even made their move. But the low-key investigation and measured pace never become truly boring, and that’s a testament to Connery’s laid-back charm. It’s not a film which is full of incident, and much of the action is very brief throughout. It’s very much a stripped down and slow-burn spy caper. This was my first ever run-through of Dr No, and I was pleasantly surprised by how watchable it is. The Henchman:N/A, save for a group of assassins who briefly pretend to be blind Synopsis:Bond is dispatched to Jamaica to investigate the death of a British agent, and uncovers a plot to disrupt the US Space Programme. Please feel free to join me in this celebration of Bond.James Bond. Many of the films are unfamiliar to me, and I'll be using this thread to lay out my thoughts. I've set myself the challenge of watching all of the Bond films in order, as we head towards the release of Spectre.
